Sensitive Teeth
 

Causes:

When the nerve of the tooth becomes susceptible to hot/cold temperatures, acidic food, flossing, and chewing and causes short sharp pain. Other causes include:

  • Weak and deteriorating fillings;
  • Cracks in teeth;
  • Teeth grinding;
  • Tooth whitening products;
  • Plaque build-up;
  • Medication;
  • Viral infection;
  • Leukemia;
  • Pregnancy;
  • Inadequate nutrition.

Symptoms:

Short sharp pain in teeth when they are exposed to hot/cold temperatures, acidic food, flossing, and chewing.

Complications:

To avoid aggravation of the pain it is important to visit us and discover the cause of the pain to remedy to the situation

Treatments:

  • Use desensitizing toothpaste;
  • Fluoride treatments.

Prevention:

To avoid sensitive teeth

  • Avoid acidic foods (i.e. soft drinks) that can irritate the mouth;
  • Use desensitizing toothpaste;
  • Daily dental hygiene, that includes brushing and flossing after every meal;
  • Regular dental exams, every 6 months;
  • Regular dental scaling and cleaning, every 6 months.
